Kookoo Chicken - Brooklyn, NY

I noticed that there was a new Malaysian restaurant in my neighborhood, so my fiance and I decided to give it a shot. Kookoo Chicken is definitely a lot smaller compared to the Malaysian restaurants we typically go to. However, it felt a lot more brighter here and the decor/atmosphere felt more inviting.

We went on a Saturday evening and the service was pretty slow even though it wasn't crazy busy. I was happy to see that their menu had different and identical items to Nyonya (a Malaysian restaurant we're familiar with).

We ordered the following:

I ordered a Malaysian Iced Coffee since I needed a boost of caffeine. I didn't like that they gave it to me in a bubble tea/plastic cup. I would have preferred it in non-to-go cup or glass. I really liked how intense the coffee flavor was though!

We got the Roti Canai which is a total must-have and order at any Malaysian restaurant. The roti was okay, but would have preferred more crispier!

This is one of my favorite vegetables (ong choy) and way to have it. It's Ong-Choy Malaysian Style. The Malaysian version is stir-fried with shrimp paste sauce and has a touch of spice to it, but it's tolerable and delicious!

We also ordered the Sarang Burong which is one of my favorite Malaysian dishes because it's unique and has a lot of delicious ingredients in it - shrimp, chicken, corn, snow peas, and black mushroom topped off with cashew nuts. This dish is surely going to fill you up since it's served in a taro-stuffed nest.

Overall, the food at Kookoo was decent. I felt the service needed a bit more improvement. I think I'm still a fan of Nyonya's food and the one in Bensonhurst is right up my block - making it more easier to reach for Malaysian food.
