Earlier this month, I had brunch with one of my best friends Diane and we did a little shopping. Since we were in the Union Square area, I thought we could revisit a restaurant I haven't been to in the longest time.

Chat-n-Chew sure looks a lot roomier and has more tables/seating since I have last been here. The restaurant smelled extremely musty and the wooden floors were dirty and old. Restrooms weren't properly maintained. When we arrived, the restaurant wasn't crowded at all. There was only three or four tables filled with customers.

Our waitress was friendly and so was the staff. We ordered our food and within 10 minutes it arrived.

Eat It & Beat It! Breakfast Special
This is one of my best friend Diane. She ordered the Eat It & Beat! Breakfast Special with a hand-cut smoked bacon ($11.00). It was a very simple breakfast - two eggs (any style), home fries, and toast. I love how full Diane's dish was and it looks like she got what she paid for.

Fresh Mushroom and Thyme Omelette
I had my eyes on the Fresh Mushroom and Thyme Omelette ($10.50) when I saw it on the menu so that's what I decided on for brunch. Yep, that's how my plate looked like when it arrived on our table. The portion size was so small and for $10.50, I felt I was ripped off. The omelette was delicious, but very small in size. The homefries were decent.

I was a little disappointed this time especially with the portion size and the price. I've been to many brunch restaurants and diners the past 2-3 years and I've never had any issues with restaurants and the portion size before until now. In addition, the musty smell lingering in the air didn't help our brunch experience either. I was so relieved when Diane and I exited the restaurant because we had fresh air finally.

Based on the size of the food and the horrible moldy smell, I don't think I will be back to Chat-n-Chew for a long time. It's just not as good as it used to be.

  1. Hmm. Musty and old aren't my favorite words to describe a place for a meal. Even though the portions and prices aren't desirable, at least the meal wasn't gross!

    1. Yeah, I'm glad the taste of the food didn't let us down, just the size for me.
